First Airfare Sales of 2008

January sales aren't just limited to your local shopping mall. If you're planning a trip and can book airfare soon, you'll be able to cash in on some great New Year's discounts.

Southwest is offering online specials now through January 21. Travel must take place between January 10 and May 8. Senior fares are available as part of this airfare special, although some of them are higher than the lowest-advertised sale fares.

United's sale only lasts until January 10, so you'll need to move quickly to take advantage of their New Year sale airfares. You can fly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays and you must finish your trip by March 6. You'll pay a surcharge if you book by telephone or at a United reservation counter.

Northwest Airlines has select international itineraries on sale through January 4. You must travel between January 8 and March 9.

As with all online travel deals, there are special conditions and restrictions for all of these sale airfares. Be sure to read the fine print before you pay for your ticket.
