Do's and Don'ts for Houseguests

Saturday January 12, 2008

My friends Paul and Gin plan all of their vacations around visits to family and friends. Their adventures have taken them all over the world. They’ve visited France, Italy, Hawaii, Tennessee and California. They’ve even taken three trips to Korea. Paul and Gin travel to wherever their loved ones live, and then explore the local area.

We often travel this way, too. I’ve explored Indianapolis and visited Chicago's outstanding museums while on our annual trip to visit friends in central Indiana. We have stayed with friends in Germany, France and Belgium, sometimes for a night or two and sometimes for a week or more.

Of course, it’s important to be a good houseguest if you’re invited to stay in someone’s home. Advance planning and open communication will ensure that you and your hosts know exactly what to expect.
