Can You Find a Good Rental Car Deal?

Monday January 28, 2008

I’m the car rental guru in my family. I think that’s because I’m the only one who loves research enough to find the best deal, and then search all over again, just in case. Or maybe it's that I tolerate frustration well.

If you've tried to find a good deal on a rental car recently, you know just how annoying that process can be. Visiting several websites and repeatedly entering my travel information, only to see "Not available," "Sold out," or a budget-busting daily rate is not my idea of travel planning fun.

Still, I've managed to find some decent rental car deals over the years. I'm not above making a reservation and then continuing to research in case a better deal comes along. I spend a lot of time reading the fine print on rental car company websites, too. Fees, facility charges and local taxes can add a whopping 30% to your final bill.

Fortunately, there are ways to find good rental car rates. It's definitely a time-consuming process, but you can save money on your next car rental.
