Wi-Fi in the Sky

Thursday August 7, 2008

The New York Times reports that Delta Air Lines plans to offer wireless Internet services on flights within the continental U.S., beginning in 2009. Delta will be the first U.S. "legacy" airline to offer Wi-Fi services on all domestic flights. The airline has partnered with Aircell® to provide broadband Wi-Fi access, which will debut on Delta's MD-80 airplanes early next year.

Delta plans to offer Wi-Fi access for $9.95 on shorter flights - those lasting less than three hours - and will charge $12.95 on longer flights. The airline plans to have Wi-Fi available on all of its domestic aircraft by mid-2009.
