Top Living History Museums

Sunday August 17, 2008

Yesterday I visited Indiana's Conner Prairie for the second time. I love this living history museum because the interpreters do a great job of staying in character and making history approachable. Volunteers add to the experience by talking about animals, crafts and daily life and by presenting hands-on opportunities to learn. My friend Michelle tried her hand at goat milking while my daughter ground corn and fed it to a huge sow and her brood.

There are so many living history museums, large and small, in the U.S. that it is hard to decide which ones to visit. Our list of top living history museums in the U.S. is just the beginning. I'd love to hear about your favorites; please leave a comment and tell us about your living history museum experiences.
