Xcaret, an ecological park on Mexico's Riviera Maya, breeds these lovely parrots and many other avian species on-site. Sadly, many of these colorful birds, which are native to the Yucatán Peninsula, fall victim to illegal hunting and poaching.

These birds are beautiful. My sister is actually a zookeeper at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and she works in the Asian aviary there. At the front of the park, there are parrots just like the ones in your photo, and my husband and I take endless photos of them whenever we visit my sister. And when I was visiting Mexico’s Mayan Riviera, I saw these birds at another nearby ecological park. Gorgeous!
It is so sad that human beings don’t seem to be able to enjoy the beauty and diversity of our world without wanting to exploit it in some way. Thank goodness that we have people who dedicate themselves to the preservation of endangered creatures like these.
Gorgeous birds! I’m glad they do have some refuges from human encroachment into their lives.
I too am glad that there are people who dedicate their lives to preservation of our animal friends.
They’re beautiful. I’d love to have clothing with their likeness embroidered on.
Lovely pair of parrots. Nice to see them in nature and not sitting on a perch in a pet store.
It’s amazing to think of having such birds flapping about ones back yard. But suppose one would have to be a rain forest individual for that scenario to happen huh
Now I miss my parakeet.
