Travel Photo of the Week: Tower of Books

By January 4, 2012

Follow me on:

As you can see, this tower of books is made of stone, not paper. It stands in Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg's Stone Sculpture Park ("Steinskulpturenpark"), the brainchild of sculptors Wolfgang Kubach and Anna Kubach-Wilmsen. The Stone Sculpture Park and adjacent Stone Sculpture Museum ("Steinskulpturenmuseum") are open weekend and holiday afternoons from mid-April through October each year.

Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg is in Germany's Nahe wine region, one of the country's 13 wine regions. Wine travel is very popular in Germany; German winemakers produce many types of wines, not just the well-known sweet rieslings one often finds in the US.

Because of the clouded sky, this stack of books sculpture almost looks like a chimney with smoke pouring out of it.

Reminds me of the stacks of books by my desk and bed, and yes Philameana is right it is reminiscent of Fahrenheit 451 as it does look like a smoke stack with the clouds pouring out.

What a fabulous sculpture! Any art that honors reading is fine in my book.
