Remember the good old days of air travel, when it was possible to run to your gate - no TSA security checkpoint to stop you - and scramble aboard the airplane five minutes before departure time?
Those days, of course, are long gone. Today's air travelers have to arrive at the airport in time to check their bags, clear airport security and board their flight 30 minutes prior to departure.
I've still had to do the run-through-the-airport thing, though, because my travel agent didn't realize that I would need extra time to clear US customs in Toronto, Canada. Earlier this year, I rebooked a flight through Heathrow Airport because I didn't feel comfortable with the transfer time allowed between my international flights. I've flown through Heathrow before, and I know I need extra time to get around that enormous airport. As you plan your next vacation, be sure to include enough time between your flights so that you can get from one terminal to another without having to hurry. We've put together some helpful tips for getting around the airport to help you with this planning process.
