Oceania Cruises - Profile of Oceania Cruises

From Michelle Abrams, for About.com

(LifeWire) - Company Information

Oceania Cruises, based in Miami, has three identical ships: the Regatta, the Insignia, and the Nautica. These mid-size ships each hold 684 passengers. Oceania Cruises sails to more than 180 ports. During the winter the ships sail from Barbados; the remainder of the year the ships sail from Southampton, England, and travel around Europe.

Mission

This ultra-premium line focuses on personalized service. Guests staying in suite accommodations have butler service. Oceania puts an emphasis on fine dining; acclaimed chef Jacques Pepin oversees all of the cuisine on board. Oceania itineraries are focused on the destination rather than the voyage: the ships are at a port almost daily, and there are few days at sea.

Destinations

Europe, Central and South America, Caribbean, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica.

Cruise Participant Demographics

According to Cruisecritic.com, 90% of the passengers on Oceania cruises are British. The cruises tend to attract guests who are age 55 and older. Because Oceania voyages are port-intensive, passengers tend to be very interested in travel and discovery, rather than relaxing by the pool.

Single Traveler Information

Single travelers must pay a supplement, which is 200% of the double-occupancy rate.

Cost

Fares range from $3,000 to $43,000, depending on itinerary and type of accommodation.

Cruise Length

Ranges from a 10-day Caribbean cruise from Miami to 40-day "Route of the Ancient Traders" cruise, with stops in Thailand, India, Egypt and Dubai.

Quick Facts

  • In addition to the main dining room, all ships have a steak house, an Italian restaurant and the Terrace Cafe, a casual restaurant.
  • Oceania's enrichment and lecture program includes culinary demonstrations, arts and crafts classes and history lectures.
  • Nightlife options include having a drink in the Martini Bar or the Observation Lounge bar, or catching a comedian or jazz band in the Ship Lounge.
  • All ships have a fully staffed medical center with a doctor and nurses.
  • Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available.
  • Nearly half of the rooms have balconies.
  • Guests are automatically granted membership in The Oceania Club after completing their first cruise. Benefits include discounts on future cruises and reunion parties.
  • On a two-week cruise, there are typically five formal nights.
