One of the highlights of any glacier visit is watching the glacier "calve." In this process, large chunks of ice break off from the glacier and fall into the water. The smaller pieces of ice are called "bergy bits." It is impossible to predict when any glacier will calve, but you'll remember it forever if you are lucky enough to be there when it happens.
