Maryland's State House dome dominates the Annapolis skyline. This historic capitol once served as the United States Capitol. The Continental Congress met here in 1783 and 1784, while the State House was still under construction. The building's distinctive dome was designed by Joseph Clark. It was here in the Maryland State House that General George Washington stood before Congress and resigned his commission as the Continental Army's Commander in Chief.
