The hotel's designers and architects studied the environment and found ways to preserve and protect local plants and animals while incorporating sustainable best practices into the construction and operation of the hotel. Hotel guests can enjoy the hotel's beautiful surroundings, attractive rooms and private nature park knowing they are making very little impact on the local environment.

Restaurants:
You can choose from four restaurants: Casa Las Islas (buffet), Alebrije (Mexican), Hacienda Grill and Kotori (Asian fusion). Hacienda Tres Ríos also offers an Italian pizzeria and sets out a wide array of French pastries at teatime. The complex has four bars.
Recreation:
Hacienda Tres Ríos began as a private nature park. Hotel guests can enjoy swimming and snorkeling in cenotes and rivers as well as at the beach. Outdoor enthusiasts can also kayak, bicycle and take nature walks. The hotel concierge can arrange for horseback riding, polo and yacht charters. If you prefer to relax a little more, you can head to the Ya'ax Ché Spa or sit by one of the two huge swimming pools. You can even tour the hotel kitchens or take a traditional Mayan nap - in an outdoor hammock.
Local Attractions:

Nearby attractions include Xel-Há, Xcaret Eco-Park, the Mayan ruins at Tulúm and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). You can take a ferry boat to the nearby island of Cozumel and enjoy top-notch SCUBA diving and snorkeling or head into Cancún or Playa del Carmen for shopping, dining and nightlife.

Accessibility:
The Hacienda Tres Ríos offers accessible rooms. Public areas are wheelchair accessible. Some of the outdoor activities – kayaking, for example – might require transfer assistance or have steps leading to the activity site.
Sustainable Tourism at Hacienda Tres Ríos:

Hacienda Tres Ríos uses state-of-the-art technology to reduce the resort's environmental impact and carbon footprint. The hotel desalinizes all the water used in the complex. The hotel's air conditioning system uses cold well water to pre-cool the chiller, which improves efficiency by 40 percent. Heat from the air conditioning system is recaptured and used in the hot water heating system.

Before the hotel complex was built, scientists conducted extensive environmental studies in the nature park and worked with architects and engineers to devise ways to build the resort while saving as many plants and animals as possible. Endangered plants were dug up and replanted during construction. The hotel is built on pilings to reduce the structure's impact on the flow of the local underground rivers. Even the massive drill bits used during construction have been recycled; they now decorate the area near the hotel's plant nursery.

Hacienda Tres Ríos employs a "Green Team" that trains employees in sustainable tourism practices, recycling and environmental management. New employees receive a week of environmental training. The team also supervises mangrove reforestation efforts and continuously works to protect endangered plants and animals.
