Hotel Nueva Vida de Ramiro, a low-density ecological hotel, is located in Tulúm's Zona Hotelera. The complex does not have a central building; instead, there are bungalows on or near the beach. The office / lobby is built in the style of a Mayan palapa, with a thatched roof and wooden supports, but without four complete walls. The hotel offers a tranquil, relaxed atmosphere, away from the bustle of modern life.
If you decide to stay in the Zona Hotelera, you should be aware that the shower and wash water in your room may be brackish (part salty). This is certainly the case at Nueva Vida de Ramiro.
Hotel Nueva Vida de Ramiro's 19 suites vary in size and amenities. Some have just a bedroom and bathroom; others have a small kitchen as well. Because the hotel makes its own electricity, there are no electrical outlets in the rooms; the lights and fans are hard-wired. There is no air conditioning. Electrical outlets and wi-fi are available in the outdoor lobby area. Children under 12 are not allowed to stay at the hotel. Rates change depending on the season and the number of people occupying the room. Low season rates start at $115 per night; high season rates start at $198 per night.
Hotel Nueva Vida de Ramiro is dedicated to providing a relaxed, intimate vacation experience while maintaining its strong commitment to sustainable tourism. The bungalows and pathways were built without disturbing existing trees. (One bungalow has a tree inside the shower because of this.) The hotel generates its own solar and wind power, which is available 24 hours a day.
Hotel Nueva Vida de Ramiro partners with local sea turtle rescue volunteers to preserve the turtle population along its beach. From April to October, the egg-laying season, volunteers patrol the beach at night to look for sea turtles that are laying eggs. After the female turtle has returned to the water, the volunteers move the eggs to the hotel's "Turtle Corral" for protection. Each nest is separately tracked; hatchlings are helped toward the water when the eggs hatch. To keep the turtles from heading in the wrong direction, since they use moonlight to find their way to the water, all the outdoor porch lights at the hotel are red instead of white.
Hotel Nueva Vida de Ramiro works with locally-owned tour companies to offer sightseeing, diving and snorkeling tours. You can visit the Mayan ruins at Coba on a hiking, high adventure and swimming tour or explore the offshore coral reef.
