Make Copies of Important Travel Documents

By Nancy Parode, About.com

If your passport is lost or stolen, it’s fairly easy to replace. This process goes much faster if you bring a copy of your passport with you. You don’t need to copy the entire document, only the passport data page (the page with your photograph and the page that faces it). If you get a visa for your trip, make a copy of it. Keep these copies in a safe place that is separate from your passport. For example, you could carry your passport and credit cards in a passport pouch and place your passport copy in the bottom of your suitcase.

It’s also a good idea to leave copies of your passport and visa with a trusted family member or friend. This person should also have a copy of your itinerary and information about your ATM card, driver’s license and credit cards in case your cards are misplaced or stolen while you’re away.
