Medical evacuation insurance pays for you to get to a local medical facility ("emergency evacuation") or to your own hospital back home ("medical repatriation"), or both, if necessary. Some policies only cover local transportation, not medical repatriation to your own hospital.
Policies that include coverage for "repatriation of remains" will pay for transportation of your body to the city where you will be buried, should you die during your trip. Typically, your family members would be required to arrange for this transportation with a provider approved by the company that issued your travel insurance.
