Itinerary:Italian Mosaic Tour
My wife and I wanted our first trip to Italy to cover as much territory as possible, and we were not disappointed. We flew into Rome, and a Globus representative met us at the airport. In Rome, our hotel was so close to the Vatican that we could see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica from the balcony of our room. We were able to visit the St. Peter's on our own before the tour started. After Rome, we visited Pisa, Florence, Milan, the lake district, Verona, Venice, Ravenna, Assisi, Pompeii, Sorrento, the isle of Capri, and Positano. There were many highlights of our trip, but I will only mention a few. In Florence, our local guide gave us a 30 minute talk on the statue of David. It was very memorable. In Stresa we took a boat ride to visit Isola Bella and in Venice we took a boat ride to Burano. These optional excursions added to the cost of our trip but they were well worth it. In Ravenna, we toured a church that was built in 590 AD. It was one of the most beautiful churches we saw in Italy. We planned our trip for the fall so that we could escape the heat of an Italian summer. It was unseasonably warm while we were there but it did cool off toward the end of our trip. Italy is very crowded even in the fall. Our tour director, Remo, developed a wonderful relationship with our group. He was funny, very organized, and very knowledgeable. We would love to travel with Remo again. He made the trip very enjoyable. We would also travel with Globus again. They are an excellent tour company.
How did you find out about this tour operator?
We had traveled with Globus before in 2008.
Pros and cons?
Pros- Our tour director was outstanding. The bus driver was an excellent driver and a good guy, too. The local guides were mostly excellent, but some were clearly better than others. The hotels were not deluxe accommodations but they were very good, very clean, and well located.
